Toatakai Squid Games
Get ready for the first Toatakai Squid Games!
Booking is essential. Contact Barney via email or in class to book a spot.
There’s a $15 entry fee, to cover costumes, equipment and prizes. We’ll have a small prize for every entrant, plus a big prize for the overall winner. Players will just need to wear a black T-shirt (prefereably plain or a Toatakai shirt), and we will provide numbers to stick on.
We are designing the games to have a winner, but ensuring the focus is on participation so all players entered have a fair and fun go. Most of the time they will be in groups with players their own age.
The rough outline is to start with events were players will try to build as many points as possible. Then after about 3/4 of the way through, the elimination process will start, with players being eliminated each event. Players that do get eliminated will still be involved voting/helping in the later events, and even will have chances to make it back in!

Hakarimata Fundrasier
Barney, Parish, Eledon and Elemer will be heading off for a 3-week tour of Europe and Asia to train against the best fighters in the world! Our trip begins late June in Salzburg at the Austrian Junior Open. From there the team heads directly to Poreč, Croatia, for a five day training camp with current and ex-world champions. The camp is followed by a World Karate Youth League, with the top players around the world competing for ranking points. The boys have a few more days in Europe, which we’ll spend training with our friends in Slovakia, before heading to Jakarta, Indonesia, for the 4th Shureido Open competition and seminar.
To fundraise, we will be completing 24 hours non-stop up and down the Hakarimata track! If you would like to sponsor the boys, we have two ways you can support them for the trip.
· Sponsor one athlete a desired amount for every lap they complete.
· Or, donate directly for the trip.
You can head to the fundraiser page to find out more info for the challenge, sponosorship or donataions

Kirikiriroa Open
Exciting news and we officially open the Kirikiriroa Open 2024!
The KO aims to provide players with a high-quality event, adopting the strategies and format of larger international competitions. A massive part of our goal is to provide athletes with as much mat time as possible. Therefore, we are introducing the following rules to maximise number of fights;
1) We will run double-elimination draws. In this format, when a player loses, they go into a separate loser’s bracket, where you still have the opportunity to fight back for the final!
2) Development players may also enter the open grade event.
3) Players may enter the age-grade division above their own (except for those entered in development divisions).
These changes mean that players who decide to enter two divisions are guaranteed a minimum of four fights.
Maximising the number of fights for players has a significant effect on the timetable. To allow for this, the KO event will be a Kumite only event (no Kata divisions).
We look forward to seeing you all in Hamilton, and best of luck to all those competing!
