Competition Rules

There are two main things to learn for competition Kumite - points and penalties. A match ends after the time has finished (two minutes for under 18s and three minutes for over 18s), a player exceeds an eight point difference or a player is disqualified through penalties. The referee controls the match and looks for penalties, while the four judges are seated in the corners and look for points. If two (or more) judges indicate a point with their flags to a contestant, that point will be scored by the referee.
